196(9) At A Time - Page 10

This page is a rarity in the set - no hatless cards! But there are three airbrushed players. Oh well, you couldn't except nine nice cards in a row.

#80 - Norm Cash Cash is in a classic baseball card pose while wearing a classic uniform. It's a nice looking card.

#81 - Mel Queen Queen is pictured at Wrigley Field. In fact, many of the Reds players feature pictures at Wrigley Field. As best as I could figure, they were taken in 1967. There is a real oddity on the back of Queen's card. He was a converted outfielder, and both his batting stats from his early career and his more recent pitching stats are featured. I've never seen another card like this and none of Queens future cards had the dual stats.

#82 - Pirates Rookies An rarity among rookie cards, this one features two players who had strong major league careers. Oliver had over 2700 hits and a lifetime .303 average from his 18 year career. Hebner also played for 18 seasons, including a stop with the Cubs at the tail end of his career.

#83 - Mike Ferraro Another Yankee taken in the expansion draft.

#84 - Bob Humphreys Bob has that "deer in the headlights" look on his face. I guess spending a few seasons with the Senators would do that to a player!

#85 - Lou Brock Our second Hall of Famer in the last two pages. Brock is posing against the batting cage at Shea Stadium.

#86 - Pete Richert Smiling Peter had his Senators hat airbrushed out.

#87 - Horace Clarke The Yankee is in his home pinstripes at Yankee Stadium. He also opted for a cooler looking pair of glasses instead of the ugly late-60's dark black glasses.

#88 - Rich Nye Nye is a Cubbie and he gets his own post tomorrow.

Overall Set Totals (player cards only)
Hall of Famers - 6
Hatless - 22
Airbrush - 18
Cubs (includes past, present, or future) - 14

  1. Wow, that Queen card is awesome. I've never seen that before. I'm going to have to pick up that card.
