My Favorite Detroit Tiger

Topps Series Two is out and here is my favorite Tiger in the set.

Armando Galarraga was really good last night (perfect, actually, right Jim Joyce), but its not him.

OK, it's not really from Series Two. But it is a 1/1 super short-print. And I am the proud owner....and dad. This is Sean's first season in the "big kid" league," with real pitchers, not the coaches. The Tigers are doing great. They've got four of the top five players in the league on the team, and they all pitch (and throw strikes). At this level, pitching is everything. The Tigers are stacked and they are undefeated.

Sean is just kind of going along for the ride. He plays the outfield about half the game. He's got one hit so far, and lots of strike outs. But that's fine; he's at least swinging now instead of looking for a walk (or getting called out on strikes).

I volunteered to be the team scorekeeper, so I get to sit in the dugout and hang with the kids. That's been a real bonus on the days when it's been hot. No unshaded bleachers for me, I'm in the cool, shady dugout! I even wear a Tigers cap, which got a good laugh out of a few of my friends. But hey, it's for a good cause.

  1. I have a card that looks very much like that one, but I swear he's a Cub..... did he get traded? ;)

  2. I wish he were on the Cubs...but our league has no Cubs team. There are 18 teams between the "minors" and the "majors," including the White Sox and Tigers; but no Cubs! Sean's coach is the head of the league and I always give him a hard time about that!

I'm a lifelong Tiger fan, and it would be my honor to post that in my collection.

  4. Jaxtigerfan,
The card is just a "virtual" card. I don't have any hard copies. If you want to add it to your collection, you can just download the picture from here (right click on the card, then save as) and print one up. You might have to resize it to get it to 3 1/2 by 2 1/2.
