We keep rolling through the 60's and now we are up to 1966. The Cubs actually had a manager this season, Leo Durocher, instead of a head coach. But Topps didn't do manager cards in the '66 set.
Among the Cubs cards is one with a dead man. The Dick Ellsworth card mistakenly used a picture of Ken Hubbs, who died in a plane crash before the start of the 1964 season.
I always thought the Hubbs photo was more than just a mistake or accident. - It feels like it was done purposely but I can't explain why.
ReplyDeleteTopps had manager cards in the 1966 set, just not for the Cubs. (Odd, because they had 2 cards for Astros' managers.)
ReplyDeletePoor Dick Ellsworth - in 1966 his card shows a deceased ex-teammate. From '67 to '69, Topps used awful big-head photos of him.
