Ozzie

No, I haven't crossed over to the dark side.  This isn't a post about Ozzie Guillen.  I can't think of a good reason to ever post anything here on him.

Instead, today's Ozzie is a warm and fuzzy Ozzie.

It's Ozzie the Cougar, the mascot of the Kane County Cougars.  Since the Cougars are now a Cubs affiliate, I needed this for the Pro Debut team set. The patch is kinda interesting looking, with a 3-D effect.  The card is also numbered to /120.  I find it a bit odd that it's the mascots that have numbered cards.  But there didn't seem to be much of a demand, and I only spent a few bucks on it.

This is the first mascot card in my Cubs collection.  The Cubs have never had a mascot, so there's never been a mascot card that I would have needed.

There have been all sorts of changes since the Ricketts family bought the team.  There's new management, new players, and big changes are coming to the ballpark.  But so far, a mascot hasn't been in the conversation.

Good.

  1. Funny how the Cubs fan's mind works. I read the title and thought of Ozzie Smith... totally different than Guillen, but a thorn in the Cubs' side nonetheless.

  3. OH no Now Topps has done with the Minor Leagues what Upper Deck did with College Football last year. Yeah last year UD had a set of College Football Mascot Manupatch cards. The look pretty neat online but they are manupatches of a picture, not a manupatch replica of a real patch which I find OK, but of a picture and they didn't even offer a non-patch base card. Sorry for being negative. I'm not a fan of the patch card but I'm a fan of Mascot cards, go figure.

  4. I thought of Guillen too. I'm OK with the Cubs not having a mascot but I wouldn't be surprised if we do see one in the next few years.
