Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 20,572 Cubs cards from 304 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1959 Topps #429 Bobby Thomson  I took me years to finally spell his last name correctly. I always wanted to spell it "Thompson."

1980s: 1989 Fleer #437 Ryne Sandberg  Some day I have to play around with the 1989 Fleer set and change the gray border to blue, so the card would look like the Cubs late '70s - early 80's pajama road uniforms.

1990s: 1992 Sports Report #17 Ryne Sandberg The Sports Report was a short-lived guide that included cards in the magazine.  There were just two issues and Ryno was in both. This card is from the initial promotional issue.

2000s: 2009 Factory Team Set #CHC14 Ryan Theriot The Riot had career highs in games played (154) and home runs (7) for the Cubs in 2009.

2010s: 2017 Allen & Ginter Mini #161 Ernie Banks  What a great card - mini Ginter with Mr. Cub beaming!

  1. Do you keep a scan of every single card or do you have to do the scan for each card number the RNG spits out? Inquiring minds want to know! Also, that Sandberg Sports Report card is quite cool, thanks for sharing.

  2. I've got all of my Cubs cards scanned. I started scanning them several years ago when I had around 9,000 or so. It was a winter project, something to do over the long, cold months. Since then I scan the cards as I acquire them.
