Comparing the Main Brands - 2005

Year - 2005

Main Brands -  Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Upper Deck

Number of Players Included Among All the Sets: 30

Players Included in Every Set: 6

After 41 Cubs players last year, the number plunged to just 30 in 2005.  Donruss had just 400 cards while Fleer was even smaller, at 350.  Upper Deck didn't help, either, with just 500 cards.

Fleer was the only brand to not show Sammy Sosa with the Cubs.  He was traded to the Orioles in February, 2005, and Fleer just left him out of their base set, though he had Cubs cards in some of their inserts.  Topps was the only brand without a Moises Alou Cubs card.  He signed with the Giants in January and Topps has a Giants card for him in series two.

  1. I love these comparison posts, super neat to see how each company treated a given team in a given year. (Probably a lot of work on your end though to put it all together!)

  2. Glad you're enjoying the posts. Putting them together was a fun winter project.

  3. Topps probably had the best set even the players have that far away look. Donruss had a decent set for 3 years in a row. Fleer gets better the next two years. Upper Deck those horizontal cards are just strange looking.
