I've got 19,238 Cubs cards from 285 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1959 Topps #548 Elmer Singleton You don't see many Elmers in the big leagues any more. In fact, there has been just one player named Elmer in the past 60 years.1980s: 1987 Topps #369 Brian Dayett Dayett's 1987 was the best of his time in the majors. He had career highs in games played, average, home runs and RBIs. The Cubs sold high on him, literally, by selling him to the Nippon Ham Giants after the season.
1990s: 1991 Fleer Ultra Traded #70 Danny Jackson He was the Cubs big free agent pickup for the 1991 season, but was a bust. He got injured in late April and ended up making just 14 starts.
2000s: 2003 Victory #187 Sammy Sosa Run Producers It looks like there is a baseball between Sammy's legs, but that is the knob to his bat.
I go through that 87 Topps team set and I remember most of that team playing (I was in middle school at the time.) Even all the relief pitchers. I have zero recollection of Brian Dayett's time with the Cubs.
