The checklist for series one of the 2022 Topps flagship came out last week. It is a major disappointment for Cub fans. Of course the team has been that too, lately, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
There are 330 cards in the first series. Just five of those belong to Cubs. It hasn't been like that since the dark days of the last rebuild ten years ago,.
Things weren't much better with the inserts. There are ten basic insert sets and only five of them include a Cub. And even worse, there isn't a single active Cub player in the five insert sets. The featured Cubs are either retired or with a different team.
Here's what I have to chase:
Base Cards
- 143 Ian Happ
- 147 Willson Contreras
- 168 Kyle Hendricks
- 271 Patrick Wisdom
- 323 Jason Heyward
Topps 1987
- T87-32 Ryne Sandberg
Topps 1987 Silver Pack Chrome
- T87C-92 Ryne Sandberg
2021 Greatest Hits
- 21GH-6 Anthony Rizzo
Diamond Greats Die Cuts
- DGDC-8 Ernie Banks
Welcome to the Show
- WTTS-5 Greg Maddux
- WTTS-19 Javier Baez
- WTTS-20 Kris Bryant
The imbalance between teams in Topps flagship is ridiculous. It is silly that there are 5 Cubs and 11 Dodgers.
ReplyDeleteYeah, having only 5 cards from one team is just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, it looks like they've gone back to multi-player League Leader cards, so that's a positive.
At least there's no Topps Choice Rookie!
ReplyDeleteHaven't looked at the checklist, but I'm gonna guess your five Cubs trump the number of Oakland A's in Series 1.
ReplyDeleteI hate how imbalanced Topps makes their flagship set these days. It's the one place where there should be basically an equal number of cards for each team in MLB. I understand having more "star cards" in high-end stuff but flagship is for the masses...what a bummer this year for Cubs fans (and I say that without knowing how well-represented my Reds will be in the set).
