In two previous posts I gave you a look at the 1989 and 1991 Swell Cubs. Today I've got the other set, from 1990.
Ernie Banks and Billy Herman make their first Swell Baseball Greats appearance. Its somewhat surprising that Mr. Cub was left out of the '89 set. And its too bad that the Herman card wasn't colorized. The black and white looks pretty dull.
Don Kessinger, Ron Santo, and Billy Williams were all repeats from the first set. The Kessinger and Santo pictures are from 1972, the only season the Cubs had red, white, and blue stripes on the sleeve. The Williams shot was taken sometime between 1969 and 1971.
This is the last of the 1990 Swell Cubs and it's a head scratcher. Why bother to show Robin Roberts as a Cub? The Hall of Famer pitched a grand total of 11 games with the Cubs in 1966. He should be shown as a Phillie.
