Ginter People of the Bible

I usually pick up one or two to the Ginter insert sets each year.  Being the smart readers that you are, you've probably deduced from the title that this year I got the People of the Bible set....and you are correct.

In the real world I'm the principal of Trinity Lutheran School in Sturgis, Michigan and I also teach 3rd and 4th grade in the morning.  As soon as I saw the sell sheets for this year's Ginter, I knew that I should get the People of the Bible set.  A few years ago I got the Ginter states set, which my students used to help learn their state capitals.  With the Bible set, I figure that there should be several times where I can get out these cards.

Since the set was just available in minis and they are fairly scarce, the 15 card set wasn't going to come cheap.  But Brentandbecca was able to put a set together for me and gave me a reasonable price.

Nine of the Bible people are from the Old Testament, leaving six from the New Testament (though I guess Jesus would technically be both Old and New).  I'll show the cards in order from their place in the Bible.

Adam and Eve...Genesis

Abraham....Genesis

Joseph....Genesis

Moses....Exodus

David....1st Samuel

Daniel....Daniel  (Duh!)

Job...Job

Isaiah....Isaiah

Jonah....Jonah

John the Baptist...the Gospels

Mary...the Gospels

Jesus....it's His book!

Peter....the Gospels

Mary Magdalene....the Gospels

Luke....Acts

Thus endeth the cards.  You may be seated and we will now sing the sermon hymn.

  1. Amen! I thought Mary Magdalene would be hotter looking, though.

  3. Is there a list anywhere online which names the artists/paintings that each of these images came from? I really wish that Topps had put that info on the backs instead of just a checklist.

So far I know that the image of Adam & Eve is by Lucas Cranach the Elder (Topps added the leaves across Eve's chest, because they aren't in the original painting), Abraham is from Rembrandt's painting "The Angel Prevents the Sacrifice of Isaac", Jonah is from Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescos, and St. Peter is by Peter Paul Rubens.
