The 2002 edition of Archives, Topps' second, changed themes from the first. Instead of having a player's first and last Topps card, the set has just one card per player. The card used was from what Topps considered to be the player's best season. In fact, Topps used that tag line with the set....
...Topps Archives Best Years.
There are 200 cards in the set and of those, ten belong to Cubs players. Many of the Cubs are shown from a season in which they won the MVP or Cy Young Award.

1958 Ernie Banks, the NL MVP
A second card for Mr. Cub from 1958, though a card from 1959 would have been appropriate since he won the NL MVP for a second consecutive season. |
No a Cubs card per se, but considered one with Fergie's inclusion. All four shown won at least 20 games and all are in the Hall of Fame |
1971 Fergie Jenkins, the NL Cy Young winner for that season |
1975 Bill Madlock, when he won the first of two consecutive NL batting crowns. He hit a robust .354 in 1975. |
1977 was Reuschel's only 20 win season and he finished third in the Cy Young voting |
Interesting the Topps went with 1990, the year Sandberg blasted 40 HRs and drove in 100 runs and didn't use the card from 1984, his MVP season. |
Santo's best season 1964, in which he hit a career-high .313, along with 30 HRs and 114 RBIs |
1952 Topps, the year in which Sauer was the NL MVP. |
Sutter's 1979 card, the season in which he won the Cy Young Award. His 37 saves tied the NL record. |
