The Heavy Lumber insert set in 2024 Series One has 20 cards in it and one of them belongs to a Cubs, Christopher Morel. According to Topps there are 500 copies of each card. That means that the odds of getting one of these are pretty long and the price will be pretty high.
The odds of getting one Heavy Lumber from a 12-card hobby pack is 1:2,311. With the 14-card retail pack the odds are 1:2,366. Those are some pretty long odds.
There were eight copies of the card listed on eBay as of Sunday afternoon. They are all listed as Buy it Now and the average price of the eight is $64.87.
I checked the sold listings and saw that just three of the Morel card have been bought. All three were accepted best offers. The average listing price was $48.38. However, the purchase cost of the three averaged out to $35.
If you want the card it looks like you'll just have to wait for the prices to start coming down.
I believe I could get along without that card, but for a guy that gets all the colors of a Darwin Barney set, you might get it at a later date when the price comes down.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I was hoping Topps would do. In an era where most inserts collectors pull from packs are overproduced garbage... it's nice to see that Topps has produced an insert out of wood and limited it. This is an insert card I'd be excited to pull. Not saying I'd drop $35 for this card though, but I'd pay $20 for the Ohtani.
ReplyDeleteGiven people's attention spans today and the constant flow of new products, I can't imagine this card not coming down in price.
