Tile Tuesday: Cubs Team Issued Cards

Today you'll get a look at cards that most of you have never seen.  These are the cards the Cubs have given away at Wrigley Field.  The first set is from 1982 and includes the true Ryne Sandberg rookie card.  The Cubs continued to give cards away most years through 2003.  Since then they have given away occasional cards in conjunction with special honors given to some Cubs HOFers.

I've got three different tiles because the cards came in three different sizes. The first tile has the smallest cards the Cubs issued, which were 2 5/16" x 3 1/2".  The cards in the second and third tile are the oversized cards that were given away from 1986-1997.  These big boys are 2 7/8" x 4 1/4". The cards in the final tile are the standard 2 1/2" x 3 1/2".

All together there are 516 cards.  But there should be 519. There are three from 2002 that I've been looking for for over a year.  Not one of these has shown up on ebay, Sportlots, Beckett, or Checkoutmycards.  The hunt for these is ongoing!

  1. I have one that I don't think I see on here. It was from when Ryne Sandberg retired (for the second time). Have you seen that before?

  2. I'm missing 2002 Dave Kingman, Lee Smith and Don Cardwell. Moe...I haven't seen a Sandberg retirement card, though I've got the card from when his number was retired.

    1. Maybe that's what it was. I'll send you a pic of it sometime if I can find it.

    2. My Sandberg #23 retired card is on the bottom row, third from the right. Is that the one you've got?

    3. If the Lee Smith that you're missing is in the style of a 1984 Topps card - I've got it. It's in an MBNA America sleeve and it was a give-away on September 28, 2002. Numbered 11 of 11. (I was there!)

Send me an e-mail at Ringo73 at msn dot com with your address, and it's yours.

  3. Cool post. I find these cards more interesting than the regular Topps issues.

  6. There is one other set that I believe is stadium issued, but I am not positive. It's the Budweiser Top Ten moments at Wrigley field. The banks card from that set is on eBay right now for $1.99 if you want to grab it, or at least see what it looks like.
