Five Random Cubs Cards
I've got 14,512 Cubs cards from 109 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1953 Bowman #154 Turk Lown Bowman snapped a shot of Turk at the Polo Grounds. Lown was 8-7 for the Cubs as he alternated between the rotation and the bullpen.
1980s: 1988 Topps Traded #42 Mark Grace This is Grace's first Topps card, as he made his MLB debut with the Cubs on May 2, 1988. He became the Cubs regular first baseman and ended up second in the Rookie of the Year voting.
1990s: 1994 Stadium Club #204 Steve Buechele The 1994 season was Buechele's last as a regular. He played in 104 games for the Cubs and hit 14 homers.
2000s: 2001 Post 500 HR Club #2 Ernie Banks There were just 8 cards in this set, though in 2001 there were far more than 8 players in the 500 home run club. It's a pleasant surprise that Ernie was included. The picture on the card shows Mr. Cub in 1957.
2010s: 2015 Topps #555 Jake Arrieta The picture comes from 2014 when Jake's beard was much thinner than he wears it today.
1900s - 1970s: 1953 Bowman #154 Turk Lown Bowman snapped a shot of Turk at the Polo Grounds. Lown was 8-7 for the Cubs as he alternated between the rotation and the bullpen.
