Inserts Should = Base

If I were to become the King of Topps, I would make a few changes.

Short Prints would be gone.  All cards would be vertical (you can't easily thumb through a stack of horizontal cards.  There would be no grunt-faced pitchers.

And insert cards like this wouldn't exist.

What is wrong with this you ask?  It looks like a nice enough card.  I've got nothing against the good people of Colombia.

The problem is that Quintana was deemed insert-worthy, but not base worthy.  As King of Topps, I would decree that in order for a player to be included in an insert set, they must be in the base set.  It seems backwards to me to have a player in a smaller insert set but not the bigger base set.

Jose seems pretty sad on the card.  Did he knew that he was left out of the base.

Maybe this will turn that frown into a smile.

  1. Oh, that's a pet peeve of mine also. You're absolutely right. Not in the base? Then no insert treatment for you!

  2. I can see having an old-timer in the inserts who doesn't have a base card, especially in sets which don't really have legends in the main set. But it makes no sense for current players, especially with an insert set as generic as "World Talent" which could literally feature anyone.

  3. Wow. Topps made an insert card of a baseball player, but not a base card? That's ridiculous.

  4. Agree on all points - no sp - no horizontal - base in - no grunting
