Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 16,082 Cubs cards from 135 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1950 Bowman #50 Andy Pafko  Such a minimalist design.  Kids in 1950 didn't have TV or the internet to learn the faces of players.  Bowman really forced you to turn the card over to figure out who's card you just pulled.

1980s: 1989 Baseball Card Magazine #11 Ryne Sandberg  A 1989 card with a 1959 design in a blog post in 2018.  This would have been so much more symmetrical if the RNG gave me this card next year!

1990s: 1995 Topps Cyberstats #26 Eddie Zambrano The Cyberstats didn't do much to help Eddie.  He was projected to be a .243 hitter if the 1994 season wasn't cut short by the strike. His actual average for the year was .259 so the computer had him regressing.  Ouch.

2000s: 2003 Finest #74 Moises Alou  It was 15 years and one week ago that Moises did not have one of his finest moments, whining and pouting like a little kid when he didn't catch that foul ball.

2010s: 2010 Factory Team set #CHC5 Mike Fontenot  Fontenot was traded to the Giants on August 11.  His spot on the roster was filled the next day by rookie Darwin Barney, and the legendary career of #15 was born!

  1. I didn't blame Moises Alou for being furious about being interfered with on the Steve Bartman foul ball mishap. He looked from every angle I saw that he would have made the catch. Any cub fan should be into the game enough to not be grabbing at a potential out and we got to see another idiot do this with Rizzo just a couple of weeks ago. Get into the game and be more aware of the game situation should be what fans should strive for.
