Varied Colors - 1954

The first Topps set, 1952, used a design that was identical on all of the cards.  The next year saw a slight change.  The box around the name, position, and team was one of two colors.  American League teams had a red box while the National League teams had black.

The 1954 set was the first to see varied colors.  Topps changed up the background color, along with the font color for the player's name.  The set includes cards for eleven Cubs players and includes five different color combinations.

My favorite is the one that Topps used the most, the white background and red name.

  1. The light blue isn't bad either, but the contrast of the red is too much to look at for long.

  2. I'm drawn to the red background Minner. Not sure why it's taken me so long to realize all of the different background. I wonder if there are other color combinations in this set outside of the five you've shown.

    1. A quick look over at COMC revealed that there's a yellow background too.
