The Cubs total is 14 discs over the 15 year run from 1988 - 2002. Seems like it works out nicely to almost one per year.
Nope.
There were some of Cub-less years, 1995, 1996, and 1998. Also, in 2001 there were two sets, one with current players (and no Cubs) and League Legends, with three Cubs.
The discs were produce by MSA from 1988 through 1996. After that, they were made by a couple makers of regular cards. From 1997 - 2000 it was Pacific. The 2001 discs came from Playoff and the final set, 2002, were made by Donruss.
Logos were missing during the entire run. So even though towards the end they moved to major card companies, King B never ponied up for the MLB license.
While logos were missing, one design element was included each year. The discs always mentioned which annual edition they were. 1st, 2nd, through Fifteenth, we know how many sets King B released. I think that's a cool feature.
Ryno was the most popular Cubs, showing up on six different discs. Andre Dawson was the only other Cub to repeat, as he was in the first set and the second-to-last year. And if you look, you'll see that the same picture was used in 1988 and 2001.
What is King B, a local dairy?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, its a shredded meat snack... a shredded Slim Jim. I've never seen it and don't feel like I'm missing anything!
DeleteThanks for putting all of these together in on picture. Never seen half of these before. I'd love to add the 1999 Pacific King B and the 2001 King B League Legends sets to my collection.
