Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 21,868 Cubs cards from 317 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1973 Topps #501 Larry Gura The 1973 season was Gura's last with the Cubs.  After going 2-4 with an ERA of 4.87, he was traded to the Rangers.

1980s: 1986 Topps Stickers #62 Dennis Eckersley  Topps stickers from this era didn't have much of a design.

1990s: 1992 O-Pee-Chee #676 Turk Wendell Not many decent baseball players here but we do have the father of a pretty decent quarterback.

2000s: 2008 Baseball Heroes #36 Alfonso Soriano  The card says he joined the 40-40 club in 2006.  That is true, but he did it with the Nationals.  Seems odd to mention that on a Cubs card.

2010s: 2012 Topps Stickers #209 Carlos Pena That is a mighty swing he is taking!  And look, and actual design on Topps stickers!

  1. I always forget that Gura started his career with the Cubs. Had no idea he was traded to the Rangers. In fact for many years... I thought he was a one franchise athlete with the Royals.
