Sunday Cub Fact: The National League's Longest Running Team

In addition to my baseball cards, I also collect Cubs media guides. I have a copy of each guide from 1961 (the year I was born) to 2008. These books are full of interesting Cubs facts. My plan is to share one of these with you each Sunday.

Did you know...that the Cubs are the only National League franchise to operate continuously in the same city for the entire history of the National League. The Cubs franchise joined the league in 1876 (won the league's first pennant!!) and have remained in the same city since.

To honor their 100th year in the league in 1976, the Cubs wore a patch on their left sleeve.

The Braves are the only other 1876 franchise still in the National League, but they obviously are not operating in their original city.

The best Cubs - Braves connection I can make would be Greg Maddux, who came up with the Cubs, went to the Braves (where he had his best years), and then returned to the Cubs (and finally finished his career shuttling around Southern California)

Donruss 1987 Greg Maddux - love the porn star mustache!
