Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 11,951 Cubs cards from 86 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

Starting with today's version of Five Random Cubs cards, I'm going to be doing the decades a little differently.  In the past, I've had all the cards from 2000 and beyond in one decade.  But now that I've got four years worth of cards, the 2010's have enough cards for their own decade.  To keep it to five different eras, I am putting the 1970s in with the '50s and '60s (and earlier).

My Cubs card totals for each time period break down this way:

1900's - 1970s: 1494 cards
1980s: 3431 cards
1990s: 3837 cards
2000s: 3013 cards
2010s: 1677 cards

1900s - 1970s: 1979 TCMA All Time Cubs Gabby Hartnett  I've got more on this set here.  The Cubs will be wearing new alternate uniforms in 2014 and the fronts will look like the front of Hartnett's uniform on this card.   More details about the uniform can be found here.

1980s: 1984 Topps Stickers #39 Keith Moreland  Zonk was a major cog for the '84 Cubs.  He had career highs in HRs (16) and RBIs (80).  He was the NL Player of the Month in August, helping lead the Cubs charge to overtake the Mets.

1990s: 1996 Team Issued #19 Scott Servais  These cards were given away at Wrigley Field on August 18, 1996.  The Cubs beat the Astros by the score of 10-8.  Servais had a nice day, going 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

2000s: 2005 Heritage #125 Nomar Garciaparra  This is one of two versions of the card.  There is also a SP that has him photoshopped into a 1956 uniform and hat.  Nomar played in only 62 game in 2005, being sidelined by a torn groin for three months.  He was a free agent after the season and the Cubs didn't make any effort to re-sign him.

2010s: Bowman Topps100 2010 Andrew Cashner  The righty was #39 among the Topps 100 prospects of 2010.  He spent most of the '10 season as a member of the Cubs bullpen.  His numbers weren't anything special....2-6, ERA of 4.80.

  2. I was surprised to see the TCMA card because I've got a 1979 minor league set that has the same design; The 1979 Jackson Mets featured Jody Davis in his pre-Cub days, plus the unfortunately-named Ronald MacDonald.

I was going to say that I should write a post about that set, but then I found out that I already have.
