Flick Friday 2014

In January, 2011 I started a feature I called "Flick Friday."  Each Friday during late January and throughout  February, I reviewed a baseball movie.  The idea was that watching a baseball movie would get my mind off of the cold winter weather.  By the time I wrapped up the feature, spring training was underway and I was able to see some real baseball.

I continued the feature in 2012 and 2013.  Over the three years I've written about Bull Durham, Rookie of the Year, Pride of the Yankees, The Natural, Bang the Drum Slowly, The Bad News Bears, A League of Their Own, Eight Men Out, Field of Dreams, Little Big League, Major League, Mr. Baseball, *61, Moneyball, Mr. 3000, The Rookie, Chasing 3000, and Cobb.

This year, I've got six more flicks set to go...42, Major League II, Trouble With the Curve, Fear Strikes Out, The Sandlot, and Diminished Capacity.

Take a look each Friday for my take on the flick plus any Cubs connections (this is Wrigley Wax, after all).

  1. May I recommend one for next year? Bingo Long and the Traveling All-Stars. One of my personal favorites.

BTW, good selections for this year. In my opinion 42 is the greatest baseball movie ever made (until my 1869 Reds movie gets made).
