After spending the winter being refurbished, the Wrigley Field marquee was re-installed yesterday.
The work took all day. They started with the bottom piece and worked their way to the top.
I did a double-take when I saw this piece come off the truck...
Were they taking part of the sign back to the original green color?? No. The green is the back of the sign. It will now be visible on the concourse, so they painted it. Nice touch, actually.
One thing I will need to do is to make a new banner for the blog. The one I've got now will look out of date.
Two things:
ReplyDeletea) they should go back to the green. Sure, the red stands out, but the green is the history of the sign. Though...

It's been red longer than any other color. Ok, I will actually retract that. Leave it red.
2) Toyota is a new addition to the sign. I think it's just a matter of time before the Toyota (or whomeever is buying that space) goes above the Wrigley Field name. Which is unfortunate but a sign (no pun intended) of the times.
Toyota was a recent addition, but that piece of the sign has been around since the Dallas Green days. It used to have a Budweiser ad. As far as something above the WF name, that is pretty unlikely to happen because of the landmark status of the sign. I can't see the landmark commission allowing more advertising.
DeleteYour banner had a great run! Here's to continued success at Wrigley Wax and newfound success at Wrigley Field!
