Topps is celebrating their 70th anniversary by putting out a 50-card insert set based on a 69-year-old set. Interesting logic.
The logic seems flawed to me, and so does the execution. The 1952 set is noted for the portraits of the players.
When Heritage began with the 1952 design in 2001,
the portrait style was used.
But take a look at what Topps did with the 2021 insert set.
It looks very different, but I think it actually looks okay. What I don't like about Heritage sets is that they are always very boring. Portraits worked in the '50s, '60s, '70s because the pictures were a lot more interesting and quirky than the portraits nowadays. So I think it was a good idea to use action shots.
