2021 Series 1 Inserts - 1986 and 1986 Chrome Cubs

 Let's take a few days to look at the different insert sets, stating with the 1986 set.  I guess this is becoming a permanent thing, Topps celebrating the 35th anniversary.  That is a weird number to celebrate, 35.  10, 25, 40, 50, those seem like celebration numbers.  But 35?

There are six Cubs in the insert set, four current players and two HOFers.

 

 

It's always a bonus when Topps shows Maddux with the Cubs instead of the Braves.  They went with a picture from his second go-around instead of the baby-faced Maddux from his first Chicago stint.

For grins, let's take a look at Ryno's actual 1986 card next to the 2021 version.

 

Looks my original is miscut a bit.  I know that Topps doesn't bother to make the modern version an exact duplicate of the original.  Notice how everything is different - the Cubs font, the name font, the font color of the position.  

The chrome silver pack set had a couple of Cubs too.

 

At least the Chrominess makes it harder to see the differences between the real and modern designs.
