Topps had die cut cards when they celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2011 and they are back for the 70th anniversary.
The 2011 cards were called "Diamond Cut," as the 60th anniversary stone is diamonds. The cards were thick and shiny, really done well.
The 70th anniversary gift is platinum according to this website, so Topps called the 2021 cards "Platinum Players." The card isn't shiny nor is it any thicker than a regular card. It's cut out to the shape of "70", but the background design makes it hard to notice. The only good news --- the name is readable!
Does anyone really like die-cuts? I like that the insert is different, I guess, but I think the same Banks card above would look loads better as a full-size card. They could superimpose the player photo and keep the '70' as a background.
