Set Size: O-Pee-Chee - 196, Topps 609
Cubs in set: O-Pee-Chee - 10, Topps 29
The fronts are identical.
The backs have just one difference, "Canada" for "U.S.A."
The cards I bought are not in the best shape, but I wasn't going to break the bank for these. I was also able to save some dollars because three Cub Hall of Famers, Banks, Jenkins, and Williams, had Topps cards with numbers higher than the 196 that OPC used.
I know very little about O-pee-chee sets (except that they are the Canadian equivalent of Topps).
ReplyDeleteDid they just use the same players and card numbers as the early-series Topps set, and cut off production after a few series?
If so, that would suck for Canadian fans, only having a handful of stars among the many commons.
You would think if they only planned to have 1/3 of the cards in the set, it would be the top 25% of players, plus WS and league leader cards.
Yes, early on they did just the first few series. In the 80s they started picking and choosing so those sets had more stars and fewer of the lesser players.
