2023 Cub #40

Well that didn't take long for the Cubs to bring in another new player.

Pitcher Daniel Palencia was called up from Iowa on Tuesday and made his MLB debut in the game that day.  He came into a tied game in the tenth inning... on the 4th of July... with the Cubs playing at Wrigley North in Milwaukee... no pressure, right??

Plaencia did well enough, pitching two scoreless innings and he picked up the win.  Ian Happ had a little something to do with the win as he threw players out at the plate in both the tenth and eleventh inning.  In fact, in the tenth inning, Palencia faced just two batters because the Cubs turned an inning ending 7- 2 - 4 double play.

I got to see Palencia pitch last season when he was with South Bend.  He started the game and was throwing some serious heat.  He looked like a big leaguer.  This season the Cubs worked on converting him to a reliever while he was at both AA and AAA.  It was a pretty quick run through the organization, going from A to the majors in less than a full season.

The picture shows him high-fiving his teammates after picking up the win.

With 40 players so far, the cards fill perfectly into a 5x8 mosaic.

  1. The email blast I received this morning said Palencia consistently throws 99-101 mph. Um, yeah, that'll get you moving up the ladder in a hurry.

  2. Not Palencia related, but since Rucker wound up making a hitting appearance the other day, you should do a SP of him!
