I Didn't Think This Card Existed

One of my goals this year has been to get most of the inserts that were part of the Topps base set. Tales of the Game, Cards Your Mom Threw Out, Legendary Lineage, the Hat and Bat Cards, and Peak Performance; for the most part I've been able to get them all....

...I thought.

The Update Series checklist included an Alfonso Soriano Peak Performance Autograph card. Yet when the set was released, I didn't see a single one show up on Ebay. When that happens, I assume that the checklist was wrong. Topps' checklists aren't the most reliable, so it was a good assumption.

Until last week.

This card showed up in an auction. I decided to watch and see what would happen.

Well, big bucks happened; bucks beyond what I was willing to pay. The card ended up going for a whopping $75.89. I didn't get it. That price was the highest price for a baseball Peak Performance autograph among all of the completed listings from the past two weeks.

All I ended up with is a hole in my binder that will never be filled, unless the price drops to about a third of the price from this auction.

  1. I had the exact same experience on this card. I saw it on the original checklist, but then it never popped up for sale and I took it off. I added it back on when the auction you mentioned came up. I'm not really looking to pick one up, but I do like to maintain as complete of a checklist as I can for the Cubs. Keep an eye out, the price will come down somewhat over time. Soriano has had autos in the last few years of Topps Update that have all been super short prints. I think you'll eventually have a chance to grab one around $30 if you wish.
