Five Random Cubs Cards
I've got 14,590 Cubs cards from 120 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1958 Topps #482 Ernie Banks All Star Ernie would win his first of two consecutive NL MVPs in 1958. Naming him to the All Star team was a no brainer. Notice that the magazine sponsor is Sport Magazine, not Sports Illustrated. Sport was a monthly that was the king of sports magazines. SI was only four years old in 1958, still the new kid on the block.
1980s: 1988 Starting Lineup Talking Baseball Leon Durham Seem odd to me that Starting Lineup had an MLB license for the figures but not for this game. The logoless cards are not very attractive.
1990s: 1992 Stadium Club #421 Jerome Walton Rookie of the Year in 1989....played only 30 games for the Cubs in 1992 and hit .127.
2000s: 2008 Heritage #481 Derrek Lee A classic pose, a smiling player, a readable signature...what a nice looking card!
2010s: 2011 Finest #92 Darwin Barney Autograph Relic Purple I have six different colored versions of this card. The purple is the lowest numbered, coming in at /5.
I saw Darwin and the Blue Jays settled on $2+ million the other day for 2017. Good to see he's still living the good life on an MLB roster.
