Year - 1998
Main Brands - Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Pacific, Score, Upper Deck
Number of Players Included Among All the Sets: 29
Players Included in Every Set: 2
We still have the same six major brands. And the total number of Cubs players increased by one, to 29. But just two players were included in all of the sets. That is crazy low!
Score was the main reason for that, as their set has just 270 cards and only three Cubs. The Grim Reaper was coming for Score and the 1998 set was its last one.
Dark Days for Major Brand Baseball Cards - Topps begins a run 1998-2002 where the uv coating causes the cards to stick together like a brick it was worse in 1999 and 2000.
ReplyDeleteWow, a 270 card flagship set is crazy! (I mean, maybe not back in the days of 16 teams, but obviously this is long past that.)
ReplyDeleteI do like that card of The Shooter sitting on the dugout bench all by himself. Something tells me Rod Beck and Andrew Chafin would have gotten along swimmingly.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lot of 98 cards, so I didn't know it was this bad!
