Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 21,195 Cubs cards from 316 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1976 ISCA #9 Mordecai Brown   Brown was a native of Nyesville, Indiana, hence his inclusion in the Indiana Sports Collectors Association set.  Years ago stopped by what is left of the town and saw...

... the monument placed in his honor.

1980s: 1983 Donruss #529 Junior Kennedy The 1983 season was Kennedy's final in the majors.  He played in just 17 games for the Cubs and hit a miniscule .136 before he was DFAed on July 22.

1990s: 1993 O-Pee-Chee #274 Ryne Sandberg  This card comes from the first set that OPC created on their own.

I think the picture they picked was better than the Topps picture.  They should have gone on their own years earlier!

2000s: 2002 Signature Moves #MA Moises Alou This is the rule-following card I have for Moises Alou.  I only hope that he was not fighting a blister problem when he signed the card.

2010s: 2012 Bricks & Ivy Starlin Castro  An interesting design here, with just the hat and logo in color.

  1. Thanks for sharing the picture of the Mordecai monument. I may have to take a road trip!

    1. It would be more of a side, side trip because it is way off of the beaten path.

  2. Are you sure the town wasn't called Nyesville, IN?
