Following up on Tuesday's post, here are the Cubs from the 1989 release of Topps Big. Again the cards have the look and feel of the 1956 Topps set. Topps increased the set to 330 cards and added another Cub, making a total of eight. They also included the members of the 1988 Olympic team, one of which was a Cubs farmhand.
Three of the eight were repeats from 1988
Ty Griffin was the Cubs farmhand on the US Olympic team. He was the Cubs 1988 first round draft pick, but never rose above AA.
Here's a really young looking Mark Grace.
Catcher Damon Berryhill was looking really promising in 1989, but got hurt at the end of the season.
And the forgettable Lance Law and Pat Perry
As a kid one of the things I collected were legacy cards. Since I didn't really have the money for vintage, I would get cards of guys whose Dads played in the big leagues. I had quite a few Vance Law cards... He was an All Star, but I think forgettable sums it up well...
