I have counted nine basic insert sets in 2023 series one, in addition to the 1988 and 1988 silver pack sets shown yesterday. They are the sets with just basic cards, no autographs, relics, or patches. There are 199 cards among those nine sets.
How many of the 199 belong to the Cubs?
It isn't good. Below is information on each of the nine sets, and I'll be going in alphabetical order.
AKA - 10 cards - this set features players with nicknames - NO CUBS
All Aces - 25 cards - a set with the best pitchers - NO CUBS
2022 Greatest Hits - 25 cards - these cards talk about game changing or game winning hits from the 2022 season - NO CUBS
Heavy Lumber - 20 cards - this is where the power hitter are found - NO CUBS
Home Field Advantage - 10 cards - the idea with these is how the player has connected with his team's fans and city - NO CUBS
Home Run Challenge - 30 cards - this promotion has been running for several years now - NO CUBS
One-Two Punch - 25 cards - star teammates are featured on these - NO CUBS
Stars of MLB - 30 cards - the title is pretty self-explanatory - NO CUBS
So there you go. Nine insert sets with 199 cards... and one lone Cub card. While that is good for my wallet, it is not good for what Topps thinks about the players that the Cubs put on the field.
series two should have more Cubs. You know they (Topps) will hit Dansby harder there.
ReplyDeleteTook me a moment to figure out why Pete Alonso was at the top of the page. B^) As much as I hope he spends his whole career in Flushing, I suppose it would be kind of apropos for him to become a Polar Bear Cub!
ReplyDeleteNow I’m scared to think about this for the Tigers. Though really I already know the answers.
