The Cubs Archives Design Years

Yesterday I showed you the sheets that gave the details on each of the 82 cards in the Cubs Archives set.  You also may have noticed that the sheets listed the year of the Topps design for the card.

Designs were used from fifteen different years.  Here's how the years were broken down:

1954 - 7 cards
1956 - 8 cards
1961 - 4 cards
1962 - 5 cards
1963 - 4 cards
1964 - 4 cards
1965 - 6 cards
1971 - 7 cards
1972 - 6 cards
1977 - 5 cards
1982 - 6 cards
1984 - 4 cards
1987 - 4 cards
1990 - 6 cards
1996 - 6 cards

For the most part, they stayed away from using a design from a year that the player had an original card with Topps.  There were four exceptions, and below are the original card on the left and the 2013 Cubs Archives card on the right

Below is a tile that has the cards in chronological order, by design year:

  1. I get excited when Archive-y cards have a photo that is the same vintage as the design, but that Jose Cardenal card could be from the same photo shoot! Awesome stuff!

I need to add a bunch of these to my want lists... Thanks for sharing!
