All I've Got of Him: Bill Hands

Playing the Giants in the NLDS got me thinking about any Cubs/Giants connections.  One lopsided trade came to mind.  In December, 1965, the Cubs traded veterans Lindy McDaniel and Don Landrum to the Giants.  In return the Cubs got two players that made their MLB debuts in 1964 and 1965, pitcher Bill Hands and catcher Randy Hundley.

It was the kind of trade that Theo made during the rebuild, veterans for prospects.  It was a great deal for the Cubs.  Hundley was a force behind the plate until knee injuries derailed his career.  Bill Hands was a top of the rotation pitcher, winning 54 games over a three year span including 20 wins in 1969.

Fergie Jenkins was the ace, but Hands was a very reliable #2.

My collection consists of just a dozen of his cards.  In addition to seven Topps cards, I've got an autograph, Dell Today stamp, a Cubs Heroes playing card Jewel, and a Topps stamp.
