Five Random Cubs Cards
I've got 15,794 Cubs cards from 133 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1973 Jewel Billy Williams I swear the RNG really picked this card, less than a week after a post about the one I'm missing from the set, Jim Hickman
His came out on June 28, the first week of the promotion. Jewel spelled Rick Reuschel's name wrong in the ad.
1980s: 1988 Donruss All Star #60 Lee Smith Smith was an All Star in 1987 and Jim Frey foolishly traded him to the Red Sox after the season. That left us with lots of 1988 cards like this one that still showed him as a Cub.
1990s: 1993 Topps #459 Derek Wallace He was 12-24 during his three years in the Cubs organization. They traded him to the Royals in the 1995 Brian McRae deal.
2000s: 2001 Upper Deck #179 Kerry Wood For the second time I have to say that the RNG really did pick this card of Kerry Wood on today, the 20th anniversary of his 20 strikeout game.
2010s: 2015 Heritage Minors Road to the Show #40 Gleyber Torres I don't care how well he does with the Yankees. If the Cubs don't make the trade to get Chapman, they don't win the 2016 World Series. It was worth the price.
