Let's take a look at the 1978 O-Pee-Chee set.
Set Size: O-Pee-Chee - 242, Topps 726 The Topps set grew by 66 cards while OPC was 22 cards smaller
Cubs in set: O-Pee-Chee - 8, Topps 28
The fronts of the cards are identical twins.
Changes are the back are the usuals... card numbers, copyright information, and bilingual write-ups, positions, and the Play Ball game.
The Tim Blackwell card represents the big change for OPC in 1978. This is the first year that they switched teams for some of the traded players and added the "Now with" line.
Topps showed Blackwell with the Expos. O-Pee-Chee must have had a really late print deadline since Blackwell came to the Cubs in February.
I love the '78 design...never seen the O-Pee-Chee Blackwell before.
ReplyDeleteAs best I can tell, Canadian card makers like OPC spent more of their limited resources on hockey production, which also meant later on-card updates and smaller baseball sets. I enjoy how many "updates" and unique cards that led to, Tim Blackwell included.
