I've got 20,143 Cubs cards from 301 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1973 Topps #61 NL Batting Leaders How about that - Billy not only led the NL in batting in 1972, he led the entire major leagues, and by 15 points too.
1980s: 1985 Topps #742 Ron Hassey The Cubs traded Hassey to the Yankees in December of 1984, so his Cubs card in the 1985 set is one that should be.
1990s: 1995 Topps #646 On Deck Cox played in just 15 MLB games, with the Expos in 1999. Glanville had a decent MLB career, though most was not with the Cubs.2000s: 2001 Fleer #249 Eric Young I love how Fleer "borrowed" the look of Topps cards from the 1950s in the Tradition set. It's like they were daring Topps to do something about it.
Cool Holtzman. He was a big part of those 70's A's World Series teams. Hope that Topps will put him into their Archives Fan Favorites set at some point.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny...that cap doesn't LOOK Jewish! B^}
ReplyDeleteI remember being happy the Cubs got Hassey. who injured himself almost immediately while playing first base.
