Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 14,890 Cubs cards from 121 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1969 Topps #347 Randy Hundley Topps recycled the picture from the 1967 card for this one. Randy should have looked much older, as Leo Durocher ran him out there day after day.  The 1969 season was the last time he played the entire year and his last good season too.  You can abuse a guy for just so long before his body gives out.

1980s: 1988 Donruss Book #146 Shawon Dunston The design of this card is the same as the base set, but it comes from a book issued by Donruss.  Each page of the book contains nine cards in an uncut sheet.  When I scanned the cards I cut them digitally, but not physically.

1990s: 1993 Donruss #28 Rick Wilkins  The 1992 season was his second in the majors.  Wilkins was a part-time player, sharing time behind the plate with Joe Girardi.

2000s: 2008 Factory Team Set #CHC7 Ryan Theriot  The Riot had his best season with the Cubs in 2008.  He hit .307 as the Cubs starting shortstop.  He and that team peaked in 2008 and both saw a steady decline after that.

2010s: 2013 Team Issued Giveaway #53 Rick Sutcliffe  This card was given the 53rd slot in the set because home game 53 was Cubs against the Dodgers, the team that Sutcliffe started with.  The Cubs lost to the LA 6-4 that day.

  1. Paul, has your random number generator ever picked cards for the same player in 2 consecutive decades?

  2. No it hasn't...good question. I wonder what the odds would be for that to happen?
