Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 17,352 Cubs cards from 203 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1977 TCMA All Time Cubs Charlie Root  No, Babe Ruth did not call his shot off of Root in the 1932 World Series.  He was pointing at the Cubs dugout.

1980s: 1989 Starline 7 Eleven Mark Grace This is one of six prototype cards that Starline created, hoping to partner with several retail outlets.  The partnerships didn't happen.

1990s: 1996 Team Issued #15 Jaime Navarro The Cubs gave these away on Baseball Card Day, August 18.  Sets were given to the first 10,000 fans.  Houston was in town that day.  Navarro got the start that day and was tagged for six runs in six innings... and he got the win!  The Cubs, trailing 6-2, scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth, and held on for a 10-8 win.

2000s: 2004 Leaf MVP Winners #2 Ernie Banks Ernie won the NL MVP in 1958 and 1959.  The picture on the card is from ten years later.  He was Mr. Cub by then, but not a feared star in the league,

2010s: 2019 inter Greats #40 Ryne Sandberg This is a nice looking card!

  1. I love when you show off cards I haven't seen yet... in particular, ones I need for my Ryno player collection. Thanks!
