2005 Finest Cubs

We're up to 2005 Finest, and this year the set grew to 166 cards, an increase of 44 cards...a pretty significant jump.  Again the set included rookie cards with autographs.  Billy Butler and Melky Cabrera are the big names among the 15 rookies.  None of the rookies are Cubs, a relief for my wallet.

The larger set size also means more Cubs, eight Cubs.  That's the most in a Finest set since 1999.  Most of the names are the usual names of the mid '00 Cubs.  The only one that might seem out of place is Jeromy Burnitz.  He was signed by the Cubs as a free agent for the 2005 season.  His job was to replace Sammy Sosa.  The 2005 season was his only with the Cubs.  What I remember most about his time in a Cubs uniform is that he wore #3 and kinda looked like Babe Ruth, or at least was built like the more famous #3.

  1. Hey, Mr. Wax...

This has nothing to do with today's post, but there's a book out that covers the artwork of Dorothy & Otis Shepard... I read about it and thought you might be interested. Here's the URL for the book's website:
