That is a significantly smaller number of Cubs compared to last year. Not winning the World Series might have something to do with that!
I also question the inclusion of Avila, Lackey, and Uehara, who are all unsigned free agents that most likely won't end up with the 2018 Cubs. What a waste of three Cubs slots.

I saw on Twitter, from Topps, that they are waiting for the big reveal of who is card #1 before they release a checklist with numbers. We all know it's going to be Aaron Judge... so just on with it already!
ReplyDeleteI've been told in the past that Series 1 is supposed to pay homage to the previous season, thus the inclusion of Lackey, Avila and etcetera. Not a fan of that mindset myself.
Interesting that there is a photo of a Bryant card but no Bryant card in the base checklist??

Just saw it somewhere else with the Opening Day logo on it so I guess he's a Series 2 preview. Now the date below the umpire/fielder make sense too.

DeleteI'm sad to see that they seem to be doing solo-player "league leader" cards again, even for players who placed 2nd or 3rd in stat categories. The multi-player leader cards used to be great, but since they stopped giving them unique designs, they've look pretty awful and 2017's were just pitiful.
