But the Cubs weren't the only team giving away a Barney bobblehead last season. The Cubs AA team, the Tennessee Smokies, also gave out one. The Smokies had giveaways for three of their alumni that went on to win a Gold Glove, and Barney was one of the three.
Sponsored by US Cellular, the Barney bobbleheads were given out to the first 1,500 fans on August 17. The Cubs gave out 10,000 of their version, so the Smokie Barney would be much more scarce. I debated for several months about getting one, especially since the prices I was seeing were no bargains. I eventually found an auction with a lower opening bid than I've seen. I was the only bidder, and the bobblehead was mine.
Is that Darwin Barney or Guy Smiley? I know, no one expects bobbleheads to to really look like the player. Glad you found one for a good price.
