Here are some more reprints, today from the T207 set.
A lesser known tobacco set from the early 20th century, the T207 set is also known as the "Brown Background" set. Look at the cards and it's pretty obvious where the name comes from. The set came out in 1912 and was the final set issued by the American Tobacco Company. Anti-trust regulations would soon force the company to be broken up.
Ten Cubs were among the 200 players featured.
I only know four of the players listed.
ReplyDeleteBrown background set? It sure is!
There was a post on the SABR blog recently about cards where the player name resembles that of the set--for example, Roger Bowman in Bowman and Jocko Conlan in the Conlon Collection. The lack of a Mordecai Brown card here is such a missed opportunity! And he was a 20-game winner in 1911, so it's hardly a stretch.
