In 1979, Larry Fritsch put out a second series of One Year Winners. This time there were 39 players in the set. The design of the front changed, though the backs remained the same. The cards were numbered from 19-54, a continuation of the numbering from the first series.
There were only two Cubs in the second series and I had never heard of either of them:
Don Eaddy is shown here at the Cubs old spring training park in Mesa. He played in 15 games for the Cubs in 1959, but got only one at bat; he was used as a pinch runner 14 times and played third base once. He remained in the Cubs organization through the 1964 season, but never made it back to Chicago.
Daryl Robertson played in 19 games for the Cubs during May, 1962. This picture was taken either May 15 or 16 when the Cubs were at the Polo Grounds to take on the expansion Mets. After hitting on .105, he was traded to the Cardinals in June, 1962. The Cardinals sent him to the minors. Robertson left organized ball after the season.
I love the One Year Winners! Most of the players are making their only appearance on a card in these sets. Great pickup!
