Ernie and D-Lee

Here is a nice relic card I picked up that feature two of my favorite Cubs.

The card comes from 2009 SP Legendary Cuts Generations. I had to settle for two gray swatches (white with a pinstripe would have been nicer), but for only eight bucks, I can't complain. I've never seen a regular Ernie Banks relic for less than $8, so to get one that's paired up with Derrek Lee for that price was a bargain I couldn't pass up.

I really like that the Banks piece is flannel. That mean's its from Ernie's playing days, not his time spent as a coach. And to have it partnered up with one of my favorite modern Cubs is even better.

I wonder if D-Lee is going to get picked up by anyone, or if this is the end of the line for him? He's 36 now and in definite decline. But if his career is over, I think he'll be OK. According to Baseball-Reference, he's earned $91,487,001 over the course of his playing time.

  1. Nice card. Legendary Cuts was generally a good set. Whenever I start to feel bad about an athlete's performance or luck or career, etc, I imagine the sweet car they're driving back to their beautiful home or in some cases mansion. Then I don't feel so bad for them anymore.
