Nomahhh...My Final Certified Auto on My List

I've been looking for a certified auto from Nomar's time with the Cubs.  Not too many are available.  The cheapest one I could find has a Cubs logo but the picture shows him with Boston.  That won't do. The only other option I found was this...

...from 2005 Sweet Spot Signatures.  Though more expensive, it is a really nice card.  The baseball insert with the autograph on it is a great touch.  It looks like he signed with a pen, so I'm not worried about the autograph fading like it has on other Sweet Spot cards.

Nomar was the last certified autograph that I was looking for.  My goal is to have a certified autograph of any player that has one from his playing time with the Cubs.  I've searched ebay several times and tried to come up with a comprehensive list.

I came up with 76 different players:
Terry Adams Leo Gomez Carlos Pena
Moises Alou Tom Gorzelanny Billy Petrick
Darwin BarneyKevin Gregg Felix Pie
Francis Beltran Angel Guzman Lou Piniella
Milton BradleyKevin Hart Mark Prior
Roosevelt Brown Jose Hernandez Aramis Ramirez
Scott Bullett Rich HillAnthony Rizzo
Freddie Bynum Micah Hoffpauir Henry Rodriguez
Marlon ByrdReed Johnson Jeff Samardzija
Andrew CashnerMatt Karchner Rey Sanchez
Larry Cassian Brooks Kieschnick      Scott Servais
Frank Castillo Bryan LaHair Alfonso Soriano
Starlin CastroDerrek Lee Sammy Sosa
Ronny Cedeno DJ LeMahieu Geovany Soto
Buck Coats Greg Maddux Ryan Theriot
Tyler ColvinBill Madlock Ozzie Timmons
Juan Cruz Dave Magadan Steve Trachsel
Blake DeWittSean Marshall Todd Walker
Rafael Dolis Scott Moore Todd Wellemeyer
Scott Downs Rod Myers Randy Wells
Kyle Farnsworth Kevin Orie Turk Wendell
Mike Fontenot Angel Pagan Kerry Wood
Kevin Foster Bob Patterson Travis Wood
Sam Fuld Corey Patterson Carlos Zambrano
Sean Gallagher David Patton Julio Zuleta
Nomar Garciaparra

I think this is everyone, but there are some notable players missing.  Ryan Dempster has auto cards from other teams, and plenty of Cubs relic cards, but no autos.  I've never seen a certified auto for Kosuke Fukudome, either.  Otherwise, I think I've got any notable player covered.  My fear is that I've missed some rookie with one card, a guy like David Patton (who??).

Anyone notice a name missing from my list??

Am I done....until the 2013 cards come out??

  1. I can run it through my master checklist database at home if you wish, but a few that come to mind immediately for me that aren't on your list - Jerome Walton (2005 Topps Fan Favorites, one of my favorite cards!), Matt Murton (a few during the mid 2000s), Will Ohman (2001 rookie autos), and Jermaine Van Buren (who?!, 2005 rookie autos).

  2. Not sure if "any player that has one from his playing time with the Cubs" means they were active when the card came out or just features them on the Cubs because you included Madlock but left off all of the Cubs HOF'ers (Santo, Billy, Ernie, Ryno, Fergie) and other big names like Lee Smith, Andre Dawson, Shawon Dunston, Don Zimmer, Mark Grace, Bill Buckner, Don Kessinger, Rick Reuschel and Bruce Sutter. Most of them have some sort of Fan Favorites card but they all have a certified card issued.

Some of the younger guys (at the time) that come to mind are Luis Montanez and Brendan Harris.

  3. Robert, I'd love to see your list.
Once A Cub has my rule, though....I'm looking for cards issued during a season that they were playing with the Cubs....Madlock shouldn't be on my list (I mixed up my active and old-timers list). I'll check into Murton, Montanez and Harris, but I'm pretty sure the cards for them are from their minor league days (or Murton's Red Sox days).

I do have auto cards for all the old guys mentioned, but I can't afford to put together a "one from each" for those guys....the Heritage buy-backs would kill me! For the old guys, I just cherry pick the players I am familiar with/like.

  5. I believe the 1991 Sandberg Donruss Elite numbered to 5000 would qualify, which is too bad, because its pricey...

  6. Thanks for all the help.....I went shopping last night and picked up cards for Murton, Ohman, Harris, and Van Buren. I've already got a Sandberg autograph, though its not on a certified card. That will have to do for now.

  7. The 1997 Donruss Signature Sandberg auto would also qualify I believe. That can be had much cheaper than the 1991 Donruss.
