The Cubs were recently the subject of the Final Jeopardy question (actually, since it was Jeopardy, the subject of an answer). More specifically, the Cubs mascot Clark was the subject.
The answer: For the first time in almost 100 years, this pro team has an official mascot, a bear named Clark.
None of the three contestants got the right answer.
Clark has been around for a little more than a year now. When he was first introduced he was subjected to a lot of bad press. Deadspin had readers send in their parody versions of Clark. Some were pretty funny, more were pretty rude. I'm not going to show any of them here, but a quick Google search for Clark Deadspin will show you what I mean.
There were many traditionalists that were upset that the Cubs got a mascot. "We're the Cubs, we don't do those kinds of things."
As for me, I see it as no big deal. Right from the start, the Cubs said that the mascot would never be on the field during a game. They've held to that. He's more of a team ambassador and kids seem to like him. If that's what it takes to connect a younger generation to the team, I'm fine with it.
I saw that episode of Jeopardy. As your link to the other blog says one of the contestants at least had the right city and was kind of close choosing the Chicago Bears. The guy who had guessed "Portland T" (presumably the Trail Blazers) I think ended up winning. He was from Canada so maybe he would have done better if it was a Hockey Question.
