Not-So-Sweet Sixteen

 The Cubs have had 38 different players take the field in 2024 and weren't not even into June (and there is a guy on the roster right now waiting to make his first appearance, too).  And it's not like the team has been awful and has had to keep bringing in players to try to be successful.

One of the biggest reasons for the large number of players is the injury bug.  It has bitten the Cubs hard.  As of Sunday, there has been a not-so-sweet sixteen different Cubs that have been placed on the injured list in 2024.  One, Caleb Kilian, has yet to see action.  The other fifteen started the season on the list or were added during the season.  Those players needed to be replaced, hence, the large number of Cubs suiting up thus far.

Hopefully they all can get healthy soon and then we can see what the team, at full health, is capable of doing.

These are the 16 IL players.  Below is description of when and why they landed on the list.

• 3/28/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Caleb Kilian on the 60-day injured list. Right shoulder strain.
• 3/28/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Jameson Taillon on the 15-day injured list retroactive to March 25, 2024. Back strain. 
• 3/28/24 Chicago Cubs placed 3B Patrick Wisdom on the 10-day injured list retroactive to March 25, 2024. Back strain. 
• 3/30/24 Chicago Cubs placed LHP Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list retroactive to March 29, 2024. Left hamstring strain. 
• 4/07/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Julian Merryweather on the 15-day injured list retroactive to April 6, 2024. Right shoulder strain. 
• 4/15/24 Chicago Cubs placed OF Seiya Suzuki on the 10-day injured list. Right oblique strain. 
• 4/23/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Kyle Hendricks on the 15-day injured list. Low back strain. 
• 4/23/24 Chicago Cubs placed LHP Drew Smyly on the 15-day injured list retroactive to April 22, 2024. Right hip impingement. 
• 4/24/24 Chicago Cubs placed 1B Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list. Right rib fracture. 
• 4/28/24 Chicago Cubs placed LHP Jordan Wicks on the 15-day injured list. Left forearm strain. 
• 5/07/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Daniel Palencia on the 15-day injured list. Right shoulder strain. 
• 5/10/24 Chicago Cubs placed SS Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 8, 2024. Right knee sprain. 
• 5/11/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Yency Almonte on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 8, 2024. Right shoulder strain. 
• 5/13/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day injured list. Right forearm strain. 
• 5/15/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Keegan Thompson on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 12, 2024. Viral illness. 
• 5/17/24 Chicago Cubs placed RHP Colten Brewer on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 14, 2024. Low back strain.
